Hi, I’m Maddi and I’m a 1:1 Employment Counsellor/ Career Coach in Guelph, Ontario Canada.
I started my employment counselling journey in November 2025 at 2nd Chance Employment Counselling Guelph-Wellington. 2nd Chance is an Employment Ontario service provider that administers free individualized employment services to individuals in the community. who often face barriers to employment.
Prior to this, I worked for the same organization as a Resource & Information Employment Counsellor for 2 years where I managed the employment resource centre in our busy downtown office. In this role I regularly had the opportunity to design and create informative and engaging bulletin boards, engage with clients, book appointments, and curate comprehensive job skills guide based on modern job search best practices.
My strengths include active listening, empathetic relationship-building, helping others realize their potential, and resource development. I have extensive experience in graphic design, résumé writing, LinkedIn optimization, social media marketing and personal branding. For example, I have created 12+ job search resource guides, created 300+ individualized résumés and I spend my time helping job seekers learn how to communicate their value and supporting them through their job search in a full-time capacity, while I continue my education in career development part-time at Conestoga College.
I believe in meeting every client where they’re at and my approach is trauma-informed, rooted in empathy, continuous learning and client-centred care.
Before anyone is an employee, they are a human being first.
I approach every interaction with this in mind as I help individuals navigate life stabilization and connect them with the right resources to help them move forward in their lives – whatever that may look like.
Before I was an employment counsellor, I was mentally ill, lost, heavily reliant on alcohol and substances, and socially withdrawn due to severe challenges with my mental health between 2016-2021. I grew up navigating parental divorce, adverse childhood experience (ACEs), bullying, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder from the age of eight.
I later became diagnosed with bipolar disorder type II, and borderline personality disorder as well as ADHD in my early adulthood.
Needless to say, despite having excelled academically and professionally, I have struggled most of my life.
I didn’t have the resources and support I needed to thrive, but somehow through my postsecondary education and meaningful work, I developed a sense of purpose and that experience is what motivates me to help others achieve that same level of self-actualization and fulfillment.
You can't choose the cards you were dealt, just how you play the hand.
Those struggles have also allowed me to connect with others more deeply, and that’s because I didn’t let them define me. You shouldn’t either.
If you’re looking for an employment counsellor in Guelph-Wellington who approaches the practice with empathy, who believes in transparency and authenticity, who genuinely cares about your success and encourages you and helps you work through barriers with the right support and resources. You’ve come to the right place. Let’s connect and get started on your employment and professional goals.

MY CAREER JOURNEY
MY ELEVATOR PITCH
Having grown up navigating the impacts of poverty and mental health challenges directly, I understand firsthand how systemic and personal barriers can negatively impact an individual’s confidence, career direction, and sense of possibility. That lived experience has shaped my commitment to supporting others facing similar challenges as they work to identify their strengths, build confidence, and move toward meaningful employment and careers.
In my role as an Employment Counsellor with 2nd Chance Employment Counselling, I’ve supported more than 5,000 clients with career exploration, personal branding, résumé development, and job-search strategies to help them take practical steps toward sustainable employment. I’m particularly passionate about creating accessible, client-centered resources that improve engagement with employment services and empower individuals to confidently present their skills and experiences.
I am currently pursuing The Canadian Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP®) designation to continue strengthening my practice and supporting individuals in achieving long-term career success.
